Mesoscia was placed in the Bombycidae by Möschler, 1878, Verh. zool.-bot. Ges. Wien 27 (Abh.): 673; it was placed in the Lasiocampidae by Kirby, 1892, ibidem 1: 850; and in the Megalopygidae by Dyar, 1895, Can. Ent. 27: 244.

MESOSCIA was included within the family MEGALOPYGIDAE by Epstein et al., in Kristensen (1999).
