Nye (1975) stated:-

M. strigifera is a junior subjective synonym of Xylina orbifera Walker, 1857, ibidem 11:761.

Poole (1989) included MAGUSA in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE, subsequently restricted to the genus AMPHIPYRA by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Other genera formerly treated in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE are treated as HADENINAE by Kitching & Rawlins (loc. cit.).

Poole (1989) included 2 species in the genus MAGUSA.
