Nye (1975) stated:-

When Magellana was proposed, Staudinger listed '?Magellana Mabillei nov. spec.' under Anarta trisema and stated that if his specimen was not conspecific with A. bisema then it should be named M. mabillei. The latter was thus doubtfully included as a synonym and, under the Code, Article 68 (c), is not eligible for selection as type-species.

Poole (1989) included 2 species in the genus MAGELLANA.
