Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:-
Ancistrota was established for two included nominal species, Ancistrota plagia Hübner, (Saturniidae, Hemileucinae), and Ancistrota flavifuscula Hübner, (Bombycidae of authors, now Apatelodidae); the latter was established as an objective replacement name for Phalaena flavaria Cramer, 1780. Almeida, 1943, Bolm Mus. nac. Rio de J. (N.S., Zool.) 7: 1, stated incorrectly that Ancistrota plagia Hübner, , was a nomen nudum and that Ancistrota flavifuscula should therefore be the type-species of Ancistrota Hübner, , by monotypy. When Ancistrota plagia Hübner, was established, however, Hübner referred to two figures of the species that had already been published (but without legend) in 1823, Zuträge Samml. exot. Schmett. 2: pl., figs 213, 214; the reference to the published figures constitutes an indication under the Code, Article 16(a)(i), and thus satisfies the criteria of availability under Article 12.
