Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:-

S. brunnus was included in the genus Sesia by Fabricius, 1793, Ent. Syst. 3 (1): 381, where the name was incorrectly spelt as * Brunneus. This incorrect subsequent spelling was emended to * Brunnea by Kirby when he designated the type-species of Acharia.

ACHARIA was included by Hübner in the GLAUCOPES, now ZYGAENIDAE; it was placed in the ARCTIIDAE by Kirby, 1892, ibidem 1: 166; it is here[Fletcher & Nye, loc. cit.] transferred to the LIMACODIDAE.

ACHARIA was included within the subfamily ZYGAENOIDEA: LIMACODIDAE: LIMACODINAE by Epstein et al., in Kristensen (1999).
