Nye (1975) stated:-

H. friwaldszkii was also proposed as a new species but spelled as frivaldszkyi by Treitschke in 1838; and unjustifiably emended to frivaldszci by Hampson, 1910. Janthinea should possibly be placed in the Heliothinae.

Poole (1989) included JANTHINEA in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE, subsequently restricted to the genus AMPHIPYRA by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Other genera formerly treated in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE are treated as HADENINAE by Kitching & Rawlins (loc. cit.).

Poole (1989) included 2 species in the genus JANTHINEA.
