Not preoccupied by Hyalaea Lamarck, [1799], Mém. Soc. Hist. nat. Paris An VII: 89, Table des Genres - Mollusca, which was cited incorrectly as * Hyalea Lamarck, 1799, by Sherborn, 1902, Index Anim. 1758-1800: 471. Neave, 1939, Nomencl. zool. 2: 704 cited both the correct and incorrect spellings as available names.

HYALEA was included within the subfamily CRAMBIDAE: PYRAUSTINAE by Munroe & Solis, in Kristensen (1999).

Shaffer (pers. comm.) treats HYALEA in the CRAMBIDAE: SPILOMELINAE.
