Fletcher (1979) stated:-

This genus was originally proposed in the Lasiocampidae, but has since been transferred to the Pterothysanidae where it was placed by Hampson, 1905, Ann. S. Afr. Mus. 3: 389.

A new family, the Hibrildidae, was proposed for the genus by Berger, 1958, Lambillionea 57: 73. In the proposal the generic name was published as * Hibrildus, an incorrect subsequent spelling.
