Syntype(s) SURINAM: ? Locality, (? Depository).. Type-locality stated to be Surinam, but this was probably an error, for the species occurs in CANADA and the U.S.A.

Notes:
Fletcher (1979) stated:-

H. saniaria is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena grataria Fabricius, 1798, Ent. Syst. (Suppl.): 453.

Parsons et al. (1999) included only 1 species in the genus HAEMATOPIS.
