Nye (1975) stated:-

G. dispar was first described by Herrich-Schäffer, 1868, Corresp.-Bl. zool.-min. Ver. Regensburg 22: 181 but was without a generic name and so not nomenclaturally available. Gundlach, 1881, Contribucion Ent. Cubana 1: 329, repeated the description but did not place dispar in a genus. Hampson attributed dispar to Herrich-Schäffer.

Poole (1989) included 2 species in the genus GONODONTODES
