Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:-

Gargela was established in the Gelechiidae; it was placed in the Pyralidae Hydrocampinae, now Nymphulinae, by Hampson, 1906 Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (7) 18: 374; and, on the advice of our colleague Mr M. Shaffer, it is here placed in the Crambidae.
