Hemming (1967) stated:-

The name Erycina Fabricius is invalid, as it is a junior homonym of Erycina Lamarck, 1805 (Ann. Mus. Hist. nat., Paris 6 (36) : 413).

The type-species of the present genus is also the type-species of the later-established genus Riodina Westwood, [1851], in which it is now placed.

Erycinidae Swainson, 1827, [type-genus Erycina] was proposed for suppression by Melville, 1975, The Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature, 32 (1) : 16 and was placed on the Official Index of Rejected Family-Group Names in Zoology, Opinion 1073, The Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature, 33 (3-4) :172.

The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
