I have seen this insect a couple of times in the last week in my lawn. What is it please?
this is a St Mark's fly, Bibio marci Possibly a male. If you see the fly again have a look at the colour of the wings. As the link says males have clear wings and females smoky brown.
They are harmless and often emerge in the late spring to drift gently and seemingly aimlessly around.
