Any ideas what this is please?

Hi, This was found on Seatown Beach, Dorset.  Is it a fossil of some sort?  Any ideas what it is?  Many thanks.

Difficult to tell from your (fuzzy) photo, I'm afraid.

It seems to be a piece of sandstone.

Are there any regular features in that doughnut-shaped impression?

If not, it will remain debateable whether it represents a fossil.

If so, depending on what you tell us, it could perhaps be an impression of an ammonite (but I would have expected the hump in the middle to be lower).

    Mike
