Worm that is posing a question.

I saw this worm under a stone (on 08/02/2013) and think it probably belongs to the Enchytraeidae. The upper image was taken about 1 minute after the lower one in which the worm appears to be enveloped in a patch of potentially stringy slime. I am wondering if this was simply chance or whether such slime is part of the worm’s developmental cycle.
