Tiny black beetles in house - any ideas what they are?

I have some very small (2-3mm) black beetles in my house.  I think they are beetles because I have had a look at one under a microscope & it had 6 legs & looked beetle-ish!  Sadly the microscope didn't have the facility to take a picture.  I tried to get a normal camera photo but they are so small it didn't work well.

They have small heads, larger bodies & look like elongated full stops to the naked eye.  Under the microscope I could see what look like vestigial wings on its back & some good big mouthparts but not long & sticking out like on a weevil.

I found them first in a cardboard box where they were to be hiding under the flaps, they seem to be photophobic.  I then found some in my kitchen dresser in some wicker or seagrass table mats.  I found more in the living room under a teeny cardboard box.  I have just found some in a kitchen cupboard inside a ceramic dish.  I haven't seen any in the food cupboards.  It's possible they came in on something from the garage.

I have looked online but can't seem to find anything like them.  I live in rural Devon.  Can anybody please give me any idea what they are?

Thank you for helping.
