Help with bone identification from a Northumberland beach

Hi There, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on the identification of a bone fragment my wife & I discovered on a beach in Northumberland. The area was around Low Hauxley which was recently in the news as a site of discovery of quite a number of human remains from ancient burial areas that had been washed out by dune errosion (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/oct/30/northumberland-coast-excavation-ancient-secrets). Not sure if this fragment is related to these finds, is human, animal or whatever - so help really appreciated.

Some images and a comparison with a UK 50p coin to help.
