Unidentified ammonite

Hi there,

I would be really grateful if you could put me out of my misery by identifying this ammonite that I bought at St. Martin's in the Field market a very long time ago. The vendor said it was from West Africa and it seems to be made of haematite (passes scratch test on the back of a tile). I have never seen crenulations like this so I wouldn't be surprised if you told me it isn't actually an ammonite or if you think it's a fake!

Many thanks for any insight...
