This is my first post and I wonder if anyone could help? I live in the south of England and last year I had lots of small dark insects in my bedroom I thought they were fleas at first but they have wings and they can fly. They seemed to be around the window area and there were lots. After continued use of the vacuum cleaner and steam cleaner I seemed to get rid of them.
This year I noticed they were back again but not confined to one area of the room. I moved out of that bedroom to try and get rid of them, the vet confirmed that they were not fleas but was not sure what they are. I have been staying with a relative in the north for 6 weeks and when I got back today the bedroom is covered in dead insects, and what looks like live ones on the net curtains.
Can anyone tell me what I am dealing with and how to get rid of them permanently.
I would appreciate any help you can give me as I am at my wits end.
It could be, well, anything (except walruses, because they are quite large and rarely fly). Perhaps fruitflies, which might be very common at this time of the year (but perhaps more common in kitchens than in bedrooms - unless your bedroom is filled with empty beerbottles, and if so: we know what they are...).
if they are very small, black and you live near farm land with especially cereal crops growing they may be thrips which seem to be able to get into everything including pictures and window frames!
If these small specks look familar then they're thrips, which you can't do much about, except tolerate... if not then...
Thrips... thrips... everyday I have thousands of then crawling into my ears (and everywhere else - especially on my glasses) and they tickle... but I still can't hate them. However, I'm quite happy to have been born a human and not one of them - the difference is however small and I don't know much about their joys in life, to be honest.
I don't hate them, I admire their tenacity, but I really don't like them when they bite me to see if I have any sap worth sucking!
Thanks everyone for taking the time to help.
I live in London there is no farm land near, I have a motorway near and loads of busy roads.
I am still not sure looking at the photos as the body looks longer than the ones I have. I will look at one with a magnifying glass to get a better idea.
I love wildlife but I am not able to share my bedroom with them as I have a phobia about insect in the home except for spiders which I love.
