I would be very grateful if someone could ID this poor little thing.
A photographer friend in Seattle, emailed me these photos of this young victim which he found last Wednesday on 'Seaview Beach' half a mile south of the southern end of Longbeach, in Longbeach, Washington. And approximately one mile north of Beard's Hallow. Unfortunately the body has now been washed out to sea again, so no PM can be performed.
I'm hoping that the photos show enough identifying details for a definite ID.
So far, a biologist friend has only been able to make a guess at it being a baby pygmy killer whale, but he isn't sure at all.
Making an educated guess, keeping in mind the area it was found, it is either a false killer whale or a short finned pilot whale. The head, colour and size suggests it to be a young false killer whale. I hope that helps
