I would be grateful for any advice identifying these beetles found in the house - I live in Middlesbrough in an urban area. We have found the odd one here and there throughout the house, both upstairs and downstairs. They are very slow and easy to catch and come out any time of day. They are about 2cm long. These are the best pics I could get. Any ideas what type of beetle they are? and are they harmful? Thanks!
This is the ground beetle Pterostichus madidus. Not usually found indoors - do you have an old house with flooring gaps, or earth subfloors anywhere? Or maybe some outdoor flooding has forced them to come inside. Usually found under logs and stones outdoors. They won't do any harm, eat your woodwork or clothes or anything like that.
