Last weekend we went to Choumert Square in Peckham which is a private path between small houses that opens to the public once a year. The tiny front gardens of these houses abound with beautiful plants, some sub-tropical that thrive in the shelter provided by this unique place. Amongst the leaves of one plant I found the attached insect (blurred I'me afraid - the strong sunlight prevented me from seeing if I was in focus or not on my phone's camera). The nearest thing to it would be a glowworm, a segmented invertebrate having turned up edges to some of its segments which were brightly coloured. Otherwise it was black, about 12 to 15mm long with six legs. Any ideas? I have never seen anything like it before.
Could this be what you saw?......
