I took this photograph in north wales, I have no idea what type of spider it is but would really like to know what it is. I sent the photo to UK safari websie and they tol me it was a nursery web spider but it bares no resemblence. It is much bigger and plumper. It is also a very light brown / beige colour.
If anyone could identifie it (lord knows ive tried!!) i would be extreeeeemly grateful. I cannot find anything that looks similar.
I perhaps wouldn't be so quick to rule out Pisaura Mirabilis...they do vary in colour & contrast of their markings, quite a bit. Females can grow to 15mm body length. The stripe down the body & serrated pattern on the flanks of the abdomen make this a very possible candidate for your photo.
They can be pretty impressive and appear to often be assumed as a non-native species by those stumbling accross them for the first time...that was certainly my first experience at any rate! ;-).
I looked up the Pisaura Mirabilis again and i cant see the resemblance Im not saying you are wrong but personally i think the head is completely different, the legs on the above species look really far apart and it lookes extremely slender and narrow. This one was thin and wide.. and pretty long..i'd say it was longer than 15mm. The legs look chunkier too. heres a picture of its head.
