Help with identification

Hi there, i wondered if anyone can help with an identification please. I have been having trouble with large branches (some 15ft or bigger) falling from douglas fir trees in my garden.

These branches are not dead wood, but live and green and moist.

The last one was a couple of weeks ago, and i noticed a couple of bugs around the "break". I them pealed back the bark to reveal lots of creatures of what appeared to be various ages including a lot of black dots which appear to be everywhere.

there are also lots further down in the bark (you can see them on the images) as i pulled it off.

Also we are having green cones fall from the trees. I can understand the brown ones but not the green ones and was also wondering if this was linked with the bugs.

I might be just worrying about nothing, or barkiing up the "wrong Tree"

I have trolled through various sites and am getting a little concerned as the only thing i can find look to be termites, but i am not

Thanks in anticipation
