Hi, There is a chunky little spider lurking about the stairwell to the block of Flats of where I live. It is brown, looks smooth, no hairs to body. The body has four indentations to it's back. Our neighbour alerted me as I have small children and dogs. My neighbour suggests it could be poisonous - even deadly. I went on google but was unable to find a pic of it. The photo I took of spider yesterday teatime. The spider was gripping onto the top corner / ceiling of our steps. Today it has moved a bit further on but not much. The body is just larger than a pea - the size of a peanut. I noticed that around the bottom edge of it's body is a thin gold line. It could well be female . I am concerned about this spider as I am normally fine to remove them myself if my family have a prob with it but for some reason I don't want to remove this one. It looks like it's very sleepy but that it may 'pounce' if disturbed! Please tell me if I should be worried. I sent an email last night to Natural History Museum and the reply was that it could be a false widow? if so, I 've heard these can be POISONOUS. I don't know much about spiders so please tell me what it is and what do i do now??
