Yesterday this became lodged about 1/2 inch in my friends foot. Needless to say, he wasn't happy about it. It is about 5 1/2 inches long, and very sharp. We just can't stop wondering about what it is. I've just run out of ideas. Anyone know?
This is a fin spine of a fish - I suspect it's a dorsal fin spine, though pectoral fin spines are very similar. There are many suspects in respect to species but I will ask my 'fishy friend' and see if he can get us close to a species.
That was quick - 'fishy friend' says "Pectoral spine, as it has asymmetrical articulation, of a catfish.
