Bird ID

My son has sent me this picture. It was taken in Braintree, Essex this morning, 7 Feb 2012. Can anyone identify the bird? He has more pictures in his camera, but they will not be available until he gets back home later in the week. This shot was taken with his Blackberry and he says he was able to get within about ten inches of the bird.

Thanks in anticipation.

Barry

    Re: Bird ID

    Hello,

This poor bird is a Domestic Canary Serinus canaria domestica. Wikipedia has an article on this bird, but you may google for similar images.

You could try to catch the bird and bring it inside. Otherwise, it doesn't have a chance of surviving in the wild.

    Best wishes,

    Florin
