can anyone put a name to these birds spotted in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia last year. they flew in as a group of three, one red and two yellows. I think they are male and female of the same species but I may be wrong. They look like some sort of swallow or swift but I can't seem to find a reference to them. Any help would be appreciated.
A grey chinned minivet maybe? See -
Actually, no. You're right, Jaguarondi. When looking at the female, even its head is not full profile, you can see no trace of yellow above or below the eye. This is consistent with P. solaris, as you suggested. Female P. flammeus and P. igneus both have yellow cheeks and faces extending around the eye.
Here are some good photos of the three species, for comparison.
Thank you both for your swift replies. When I posted the original photos, I chose the ones showing the most plumage, I have just added a further three showing the head. I hope these show the details you seem to require for a positive ID.
Please excuse the blurry pictures, I was at the extreme range of my cameras zoom.
Thank you very much for the new photos. I believe your birds are Grey-chinned Minivets Pericrocotus solaris, as identified by Jaguarondi.
Please compare your photos with this one. (no yellow eyebrow)
