Please can someone help identify this bee?

Please can someone help identify this bee, we have be sitting in the garden and watching a purple flowered plant and there is a territorial bee that becomes very aggressive when other bees come to feed on the flowers? What type of bee is it?

This is a very worn (probably from all it's battling) Wool Carder bee, Anthidium manicatum. They are very territorial and patrol their favourite flower borders and will vigorously pursue other visiting insects. I have even seen them chase children, cats and shadows. You will have a higher chance of seeing these if you grow hairy leaved plants like Stachys as the female uses the hairs to line her brood cells.
