Is this a fuchsia?

I saw this growing along a foot path adjacent to gardens but I can't find find it in any reference book. I half thought it was a fuchsia but it is about 1m tall and the leaves 8-10cm whereas most small flowered fuchsias I can find, the leaves are much smaller. I'm stumped so please help!

    Hello poppycatkins,

This is a Phygelius. It's in a different family to Fuchsia, but the common name is Cape Fuchsia after the similarity between the two. As this name suggests it's native to South Africa, but is fairly hardy in this country.

    Regards Lucy
