Over the past few days we have has a number of these bugs appear in our kitchen where they mainly walk on the celling but also fall onto the work surfaces below. They are about 5mm long, black with a single small reddish spot on their sides and very spiky backs. They also appear to have ant like pincers at the mouth which unfortunately you cannot really see in the photos.
Any help identifying this will be greatly aprecciated.

These look like lady bird larvae to me - cream-streaked probably.
