Is this a crab?

I was too far away and had it down as a Strawberry Tree, as the fruit was red but not cherry-like, but, in retrospect, it's nothing like that. And the bark IS cherry-like, so I'm lost. Please help.

    Dear Rhussel,

Well spotted. This tree is cherry-like but not a true cherry. It is a cherry-plum (sometimes also called a mirobalan), Prunus cerasifera. The fruits are larger than cherries and generally borne singly on short stalks like plums, but the greyish bloom typical of plums is very thin or absent. The fruits can be red or yellow and are edible. Your tree is the normal variety with green foliage, white flowers and  red fruits but a purple-leaved form with pink flowers and purple fruits, P. cerasifera var. pissardii, is one of the most frequently planted street trees.
