This beetle hatched from a grub inside a rotten tree trunk. I thought I had identified it as a ground beetle but everything else I saw about it says it doesn't fly, however this one does, so could anyone tell me it's exact species please? There is another grub probably due to hatch soon too.
Not a ground beetle (Carabidae), that is Prionus coriarius, a longhorn (Cerambycidae). If you look at the eyes you will see they have a notch where the antennae are inserted, this is characteristic of the longhorns. A nice find - I take it that you live in southeast?
