I took some photos of butterflies and put them up on my FB page. Some people are asking me what they are!! Some are pretty obvious but the following pictures, I'm not sure what they are and hope you can help!
Mainly red and a fritiliary type:
Ive positively identified another picture as a Tiger Longwing so what does that make these two!!:
My first guess for this one was a Queen Danaus gilippus but a google search of images shows it probably isnt. Can't find another match in the ID charts for this one:
If you can help: many thanks!!
I think you'll find that the first ("mainly red and a fritilary type") is 'Red Peacock', anartia amathea [also known as 'Brown Peacock' or 'Scarlet Peacock']
The second and third are 'Plain Tiger' or 'African Monarch', danaus chrysippus.
The fourth is a mystery to me but it does seem to be a swallowtail (of which the mormons are a subspecies but I don't think it is as identified by another respondant). But I am prepared to be proved wrong!
I too have visited the butterfly exhibits a couple of times (2010 and 2011). I tend to take pictures of the information panals but they are not always helpful in identifying what you're photographing.
