Have you ever eaten an insect?

This month's Nature Live evening event is all about insects - but have you ever tried eating them?  What did you eat?  Was it alive or was it dead? And where were you at the time - an exotic location or the unusaul food items aisle in Selfridges?!  Share your edible insect stories with us here and we'll try and mention them during the event.

Or, better still, why not come along?  Tickets are on sale here, and we'll give you the opportunity to try eating a couple of insects during the evening!

    Just noticed this question!

I worked in East Africa in the 1970's and was once treated to fried grasshoppers.  They tasted nice, rather like shrimps.  The only problem I found was that they had much larger eyes than crustaceans and for some reason that put me off a bit!  The local people also used to eat flying termites; and folk living near Lake Victoria eat lake flies made into "cakes" (a kind of small gnat I think) that swarm in their billions at certain times.  Apparently the flies don't taste very nice but are eaten because they contain valuable protein.  I didn't try any of those!

More recently I went to a Zambian meal with a friend and had some roasted (or fried, not sure which) caterpillars.  They didn't taste too bad but I found them rather chewy.
