I was very pleased to catch an ichneumon wasp (or it might be a braconid) for the first time. I studied it carefully but I can't identify it and the wing veination isn't clear. The body (from head to tail, excluding ovipositor) was about 1 cm. Then I suddenly saw what might be another insect on the far side of the twig to the right. Am I imagining that? Could it be vegetation that resembles an insect? But if it is an insect, what is it and is its proximity to the wasp pure chance or is one hunting the other?
Thanks Mike. Looking again I think you are right (I can now see a short antenna pointing down whereas previously I thought I saw a long antenna pointing up). As far as I remember the wasp flew off shortly after I took the photo and flew away.
