This is the Greater Woodwasp, Urocerus gigas. It is a wasp in the group commonly known as sawflies and despite their formidable size and appearance they are harmless. The female uses this long ovipositor to lay eggs in dead trees and her larvae feed and develop on this dead wood resource over the course of several years.
