It looks like it might be a Mite. We found it in our garden in Forest Park in Bracknell, Berkshire a few days ago (18th July 2014). My wife said she saw it fall off of our boy cat.
It is a tick.
Somebody else here may be able to ID it for you more accurately.
Looks like one of our Ixodes species. This example is not engorged so is unlikely to have been feeding on your cay for long, if at all.
Hosts when this species is an adult are large mammals including, horses, sheep, cattle, deer, dogs and occasionally humans. Nymphs feed on small mammals including, rodents, rabbits, bats and birds.
