I noticed these interesting web formations in my mums garden this afternoon and can't say I've ever seen any like it.
They appear to wrap stalks/stems of leafy plants in a cocoon (at ground level) and they almost look like they're wrapped in candy floss.
I hung around for a bit to see if I could spot the spider that created them, but no sign.
I wondered if you could look at the attached pictures and hopefully identify the type of spider making these webs?
These may not be made by a spider at all. A good number of Caterpillars spin a protective 'web'.
Google image search 'caterpillar web' and you will see what I mean.
