YAWN!!! IS THIS JUST ANOTHER BUTTERFLY VARIANT?

I revisited a rambling (part kempt and part wonderfully wooded and wild) South London cemetery today where, incidentally, I was so pleased to spot a single Speckled Wood butterfly which type seems drastically down this year - even completely gone so early in the year in London locations where I have viewed them over the years as the most ubiquitous butterfly first to arrive in Spring and last to leave in Autumn.

Instead, Ringlets are, to me, peculiarly abundant that I have never viewed in London in previous years. And, what a surprise to witness a Ringlet variant male, of which I saw several of the same, so distinctive the lighter rear wings in flight that I wondered what I had come across if they had not been Ringlets?

Comments please.
