I spotted the dear little soul in the pictures on the Thames Path in the Crossness area (between Woolwich and Erith) earlier today.
She/he was about 3 to 4 inches in length.
My first thought was; young Brown Rat.
But it has been suggested that she/he might be a young Water Vole (we have Water Voles locally) viz. the fur appears to have the chestnut colour of the Water Vole and she/he has the blunt nose and flat ears associated with Voles. There also seem to be hairs on a seemingly short tail. I understand rats have long, hairless tails.
Any help will be gratefully accepted.
A River Path of sorts. The Vole (for we shall now call her/him a Vole) is standing beside the Sea Wall (the River is tidal here). So not really a River Bank in the expected sense. Quite what she/he was doing there we shall alas never know!
Once again, thanks ~ Mike .....
