Female Common Blue or Northern Brown Argus? ID please.

  • Hi Sarah

The brown arguses don't have any blue so I would rule them out.

However I am slightly perplexed because on the common blue I would expect to be able to see an additional spot on the front underwing.

The only other one I can think which is vaguely 'right' would be a male silver studded blue (Plebejus argus), but you're way too far north ...

My guess is a female common blue, perhaps a slight aberration, but prepared to be corrected :)

    Charles
