Strange Rock to Bournemouth area previously subjected to heat

While excavating an area for a retaining wall about 5 ft below surface, I come across an unusual odd shaped heavy rock for the area, normally if we find anything it is sandstone?. After cleaning it off I realised it was metalic & has partially melted at its outer. There are some sparkly bits in it witch will scratch glass.

I since discovered it to be atracted by a magnet & weighs about 7lb, photos enclosed.

I am thinking WW2 Shrapnel, Ancient slag from Iron Making or the fragment of a meteorite.

There was plenty of WW2 activity in the area, as not more than 10 ft away at the surface level I found a few American live rounds (since handed in) & also dug out a spent tracer slug from aircraft cannon fire. The only iron age site I am aware of was at a location called Hengistbury Head about 6 miles east.

Any ideas most welcome, as I would be facinated to know  what this is.

Regards

Chris
