mammoth or elephant?

This tooth was found in garden soil in the grounds of a former school in Wareham, Dorset, in the 1970s. The finder thought it may have been a teaching aid or curiosity at the school. It was identified at the time as possibly mammoth. Any opinions?

The tooth pattern is consistent with Mammoth. Asian elephants have a very simillar pattern, African elephants are quite different.
