I found many of the below larvae in flower pots over the weekend as I was planting new flowers. These pots were left dormant and unplanted over the winter. In the first one I found dozens of the little creatures. They are about 8-10mm long (fit on a one penny peice). I have done an extensive search online and can't find out what they are. In the photo you can clearly see their 3 pairs of legs and the wings folded over the last set. the hind legs look longer than the front a bit like a grasshopper.
I am sure there are many more in the other pots that have had flowers in over the winter so I need to know whether they are friend or foe and if I need to dig up all remaining pots before I a get a plague of something nasty.
Your help and indentification expertise are much appreciated.
