mildly disappointing first trip to Bracklesham Bay few weeks ago, these two were the most interesting finds. Would like to know if anyone can identify them? Is it a fragment of sharks tooth (appears chipped in half) and piece of turtle shell?
Thanks a lot
Yes - I'm fairly sure the larger piece is part of a Trionyx carapace.
You'll find a somewhat similar piece here - http://www.discussfossils.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2465&title=selsey-bracklesham-bay (search for Trionyx),
and here - http://www.dmap.co.uk/fossils/bracklesham/vert/brackvert.htm
I'm not quite sure on the other piece...
General geological field reference on the area
I think Mike is rite with the id on the turtle and your other specimen doe's look to be a worn out shark tooth.
