Found this handsome chap busying around a nettle patch near Stamford yesterday.
Strikes me as lygaeus or spilostethus (is there a difference?), but can't nail him down.
Looks a lot like L. saxatilis, but the thorax markings doesn't look right (he hasn't really got any !!).
Maybe Corizus hyoscyami - looks a good match. See -
I think you're right - good spot!
The red on the thorax is really dark on mine, but I can see it if I look hard.
The pattern is right on the money.
Corizus must be closely related to Lygaeus??
I don't know but Corizus isn't in the family Lygaeidae it's in Rhopalidae. However, I can't find Lygaeus or saxatilis or Spilosthetus in the UK checklist. See -
