Hi everyone, doing some work in my grandmothers yard and I want to id this tree because it's sucking all the water out of her soil.
It is a holm oak, Quercus ilex (or a close relative; there are hybrids).
The most well-known of the hybrids is the Lucombe oak, Quercus x hispanica 'Lucombeana'
In the UK, they are found mainly towards the SW; the larger specimens at least.
To be honest, I don't know if that distribution reflects hardiness, or just that they were planted there first and thus have had the most time to gain stature.
