Id help please - something artica or artica something??

Many seen In garden in Upminster Essex over the past few days, alathough an old picture. Largest no more than 5mm long and appear to have come from conifers.

  • Looks like Cinara confinis, one of our largest and impressive aphids (in the UK) sometimes achieving 8mm in body length. This aphid usually colonises firs (Abies spp) and Cedrus deodara (Himalayan Cedar). For some reason they sometimes appear to go walkabout and leave the trees an can appear in vast numbers although they are often associated with 'poorly trees' the word on the street is that that they are not necessarily the cause of tree maladies, rather that they are attracted to trees in distress.
