Please identify this! Its beautiful and I would like to know the name.
It is peacock ore, which may be bornite (Cu5FeS4), covellite (CuS), or chalcopyrite (CuFeS2)).
Covellite is the least likely of the three
Chalcopyrite is the commonest of the three, and you can check by looking at its streak, described as 'green tinged black'. The streak of bornite is grey-black without the green tinge.
I suspect yours is bornite.
The blue-purple-violet colours arise from tarnishing, but they can also be induced artifically (sometimes to make them more attractive for sale)
